Shawn is co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Momentum Company, where he leads a team working to democratize and commercialize new, clean energy technologies on a global level. He has organized hundreds of teams developing and deploying zero emission technologies , including Volvo, BMW, WeWork, Waste Management, Cummins Engine, ChargePoint and the University of California.
Shawn directed the successful bipartisan campaign to create the California Sierra Nevada Conservancy, the state's largest conservancy protecting 60 percent of the state's supply of clean water and more than 25 million acres. The Sierra Nevada Conservancy has since invested over $400 million in protecting rivers, meadows and forests throughout the region.
Shawn founded The Sierra Fund, the first community foundation for the environment, and raised over $100 million to protect valuable forest and river lands throughout the region, including the Truckee River, Yuba River, American River, Sierra Buttes, and Sierra Valley.
Shawn designed the California Sustainable Energy Entrepreneur Development Initiative and the California TestBed Initiative, which provides services and financial support to 100 startups working to deploy clean energy technologies in California. He designed the BlueTechValley Initiative at CSU Fresno, which provides support for Central Valley innovators working to develop technologies at the food-water-energy nexus. He has been instrumental in raisin over $50 million for these efforts from federal, state and private investors.
Shawn founded the highly regarded political and strategic communications firm of SMART Campaigns. He directed political and strategic communications strategies on more than one hundred campaigns, including Presidential, US Senate, US Congressional campaigns; Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and the League of Conservation Voters; and business, legal and statewide initiatives around the globe.

Shawn lead the growth of a local river advocacy organization into a nationally recognized powerhouse that earned Wild and Scenic protection for the Yuba River, defeating a series of 7 dam proposals in the process and attracting more than $100 million for restoration of wild fisheries, meadows and forests in the watershed. While there, he launched the RiverLaw and RiverScience program. The organization became a standard bearer for community action and grew to the largest single river advocacy organization in the United States, its successes highlighted in film and books.
